Section 45-8A-22.62

Board membership.

The retirement board shall be composed of three members. One member shall be elected by the retirees and surviving spouses of the fund, one member shall be a member of the fire department elected by the members of the fire department, and one member shall be a member of the police department elected by the members of the police department. The member elected by the retirees of the fund shall serve for a term of one year; the member elected by the members of the fire department shall serve for a term of two years; the member elected by the members of the police department shall serve for a term of three years. Their successors shall be elected for terms of three years. Any vacancy on the retirement board shall be filled for the unexpired term by the appointing authority of the member who vacated his or her position on the retirement board. The members of the board shall elect one of their number as chairman. The members of the retirement board shall serve without compensation.
