Section 45-8A-22.83

Death benefit.

In addition to all other benefits provided by this act, if any active or retired participant shall die from any cause whatsoever leaving a spouse, the retirement board shall direct the payment from the plan to the spouse of the sum of one thousand five hundred dollars ($1,500). Should such deceased participant leave no spouse, but a child or children under the age of 18 years, the retirement board shall direct the payment from the plan to the legal guardian of such child or children under the age of 18 years the sum of one thousand five hundred dollars ($1,500) for the use of such child or children.
