Sec. 51-77. Filling of vacancies. Whenever a vacancy exists in the office of messenger or assistant messenger, the judges of the Superior Court or any authorized committee thereof may fill the vacancy until the next July first.

History: 1972 acts added judicial districts, effective September 5, 1972; P.A. 77-576 deleted provision allowing removal
of messenger for cause and proviso re interim appointments to fill vacancies until judges' annual meeting, at which time
judges fill the vacancy for the remainder of the term, specifying instead that vacancies are to be filled until the next July
first by judges or a committee of judges, and included reference to assistant messengers, effective July 1, 1978; P.A. 82-248 changed "such court" to "superior court" and "such" to "the".
