Chapter 5. Armed Forces

Application on behalf of titleholder
Sec. 1. A person:
(1) serving in the armed forces of the United States; and
(2) who holds an Indiana certificate of title for a vehicle that has
not been registered in Indiana;
may extend authority by a letter to a resident of Indiana who is at
least eighteen (18) years of age to apply for, on behalf of the holder
of the certificate of title, a certificate of registration for the motor
vehicle described in the certificate of title.

Applications; statutes governing; signatures
Sec. 2. An application for registration under this chapter must be:
(1) made under the laws governing applications; and
(2) signed for, on behalf of the holder, by the person named in
the letter.

Signatures; determination of authenticity
Sec. 3. Upon receiving an application and a letter of authorization,
the bureau shall determine if the signature on the letter is that of the
person who holds the certificate of title for the motor vehicle by
comparing the signature on the letter with the signature on the
certificate of title.

Certificates of registration; issuance
Sec. 4. When the bureau is satisfied that the signature on the letter
is genuine, the bureau shall issue the certificate of registration.

Fees
Sec. 5. The fees for and other conditions of registration under this
chapter are the same as if the person who holds the certificate of title
has been issued the certificate of registration.

Violations
Sec. 6. A person who violates this chapter commits a Class C
infraction.
