321E.12 REGISTRATION MUST BE CONSISTENT. A vehicle traveling under permit shall be properly registered for the gross weight of the vehicle and load. A trip permit issued according to section 326.23 shall not be used in lieu of the registration provided for in this section. A person owning special mobile equipment may use a transport vehicle registered for the gross weight of the transport without a load. Vehicles, while being used for the transportation of buildings, except mobile homes and factory-built structures, may be registered for the combined gross weight of the vehicle and load on a single-trip basis. The fee is five cents per ton exceeding the weight registered under section 321.122 per mile of travel. Fees shall not be prorated for fractions of miles.
