Chapter 25.--ELECTIONS
Article 46.--OPTICAL SCANNING SYSTEMS TO COUNT VOTES

      25-4601.   Definitions.As used in this act unless the context otherwise requires:

      (a)   "Ballot" means a paper ballot on which candidates' names or questions areprintedand which is designed to receive opaque marks which can bedetected by opticalscanning equipment and which is capable of being countedmanually.

      (b)   "Optical scanning equipment" means apparatus designed to examine anddetect opaque marks on ballots which represent votes and count and tabulatethose votes by electronic methods.

      (c)   "System" means an optical scanning system ofautomatically countingand tabulating ballots with optical scanning equipment.

      (d)   "Precinct count voting system" means an optical scanning voting systemthat tabulates ballots at the polling place.

      (e)   "Central count voting system" means an optical scanning voting systemthattabulates ballots from multiple precincts at a central location. Voted ballotsare placed into secure storage at the polling place and transported to acentral counting location.
