Chapter 46.--LEGISLATURE
Article 1.--GENERAL PROVISIONS

      46-134a.   Senate ways and means and house appropriations committees;continuing committees; meetings; visiting state institutions;compensation and expense allowances.The committee on ways and means of the senate and thecommittee on appropriations of the house ofrepresentatives of the legislature of the state of Kansas shall becontinuing committees of the legislature during the terms for which themembers are appointed and shall hold meetings as may be necessary untilthe convening of the next regular session of the legislature. In theevent of a vacancy on the senate committee on ways and means, asuccessor shall be appointed as members of senate committees areappointed, and in the event of a vacancy on the house committee on appropriationsthe speaker of the house shall appoint a successor.

      At any time following theadjournment of the legislature in each odd-numbered year and until theconvening of the ensuing session of the legislature in even-numbered yearseach such committee or subcommitteesthereof may, on call of the chairperson, meet and visit the variousinstitutions for the purpose of acquiringinformation concerning the conditions, needs, and requirements of suchinstitutions.

      Any member of such committees or subcommittees attending a meetingauthorized by this section, shall receive compensation and travelexpenses and subsistence expenses or allowances as provided in K.S.A.75-3212 and amendments thereto.

      All vouchers of any member of each committee andall expense vouchers shall be approved by the chairpersonor vice-chairpersonthereof. Compensation, allowances and expenses authorized under thissection shall be paid from funds specifically appropriated for suchpurpose or, in the absence of such specific appropriation, from fundsappropriated for legislative expense.
