Chapter 47.--LIVESTOCK AND DOMESTIC ANIMALS
Article 6.--PROTECTION OF DOMESTIC ANIMALS

      47-615.   Killing of condemned animals; inventory andappraisal; duties of commissioner; payment or indemnity to owner.Whenever the commissioner directs the killing ordisposition of anydomestic animal or animals, except dogs, it shall be the duty of thecommissionerand the owner of the condemned animals, to appraise the animal or animalsto be killed or disposed. The commissioner shall makean inventory of the animalor animals condemned, and in fixing the value of such animalor animals, the commissioner shall be governed by thevalue of such animal or animals at thetime of the first appearance of the disease. The state of Kansas shall pay totheowner the amount to which the owner is entitled as determined by thecommissioner as provided by this section unless payment or indemnity for suchdomestic animal may be obtained from the United States government.
