65-3241. Cooperation between coroner and procurementorganization.(a) A coroner shall cooperate withprocurementorganizations to maximize the opportunity to recover anatomical gifts for thepurpose oftransplantation, therapy, research, or education.
(b) If a coroner receives noticefrom a procurementorganization that an anatomical gift might be available or was made withrespect to a decedentwhose body is under the jurisdiction of the coroner and apost-mortemexamination is going to be performed, unless the coronerdenies recoveryin accordance withK.S.A. 2009 Supp.65-3242, and amendments thereto, thecoroner or designeeshall conduct a post-mortem examination of the body orthe part in a manner and within a periodcompatiblewith its preservation for the purposes of the gift.
(c) A part may not be removed from the body of adecedent under the jurisdictionof a coroner for transplantation, therapy, research, oreducation unless thepart is the subject of an anatomical gift. The body of a decedent under thejurisdiction of thecoroner may not be delivered to a person for research oreducation unlessthe body is the subject of an anatomical gift. This subsection does notpreclude a coroner from performing the medicolegalinvestigation upon the body or parts of adecedent under the jurisdiction of the coroner.
