Article 75.--STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION

      72-7503.   Composition of state board; position numbers; residencequalification; filling vacancies; powers generally.(a) In compliance with sections 2 and 3 of article 6 of the constitutionof this state, provisions are hereby made for the state board of education.The board shall be comprised of ten (10) members. The board shall have ten(10) board member positions, which are numbered one (1) to ten (10). Thestate is divided into ten (10) board member districts, which are numberedone (1) to ten (10). Each board member position shall correspond to therespectively numbered board member district. Each board member positionshall be occupied by a resident of the board member district having thesame number.

      (b)   Members of the state board of education shall be elected as providedby law, except that vacancies occurring on the board shall be filled byappointment under the conditions herein specified.

      (c)   The state board of education shall have the powers that it isspecified to have in the constitution as such powers are more specificallydescribed and defined by law.
