Section 11-202 - Removal from court on conviction.

§ 11-202. Removal from court on conviction.
 

(a)  Duty of sheriff.- Except as provided in subsection (b) of this section, when an individual is convicted in any court of the State and sentenced to imprisonment in the Division of Correction, the sheriff of the county in which the court is located shall: 

(1) remove the individual from the court as soon as possible; and 

(2) deliver the individual to the Division of Correction at the expense of the county. 

(b)  Use of other law enforcement officers in Anne Arundel County.- The County Council of Anne Arundel County, by resolution or law, may provide that a certified law enforcement officer other than the Sheriff shall remove an individual from court after conviction. 

(c)  Civil penalty.- A sheriff who does not comply with subsection (a) of this section shall forfeit $1,000.
