Section 9-516 - Employment of inmates in Carroll County.

§ 9-516. Employment of inmates in Carroll County.
 

(a)  In general.- The Board of County Commissioners of Carroll County may employ an inmate who is serving a term of confinement in the Carroll County Detention Center to perform any public service that Carroll County routinely provides to the citizens of the County. 

(b)  Regulations.- The Sheriff of Carroll County, in consultation with and on the approval of the Board of County Commissioners of Carroll County, shall adopt regulations governing the inmate employment program authorized under this section, including supervision of inmates and security of the public and the Detention Center. 

(c)  Reduction in sentence.- For each calendar month during which an inmate shows satisfactory industry, application, and progress in special selected work projects, the inmate may be allowed a deduction of not more than 5 days of the inmate's term of confinement. 

(d)  Wages; reimbursement of costs.- The Board of County Commissioners of Carroll County may: 

(1) authorize payment to inmates employed as provided under this section based on the normal rate of pay for the job performed; and 

(2) deduct from payments to inmates the costs of providing the employment, training, and confinement.
