Emergency appointments.

36.270. When an emergency makes it necessary to fill aposition subject hereto immediately in order to prevent stoppageof public business, or loss, hazard, or serious inconvenience tothe public, and it is impracticable to fill such a position underany other provision of this chapter, an appointing authority or aproperly authorized subordinate employee may appoint anyqualified person to such a position without prior approval of thedirector. Any such person shall be employed only during such anemergency, and any such appointment shall expire automaticallyninety calendar days from the date of the appointment. Theappointing authority shall report each emergency appointment tothe director as soon as possible after date of such appointmentand the report shall contain the name of the person appointed,the date of appointment, and the reasons which made theappointment necessary. No individual may be given more than onesuch appointment in any twelve-month period in the same divisionof service.
