Cities may maintain joint fire departments.

71.400. Any two or more cities, towns or incorporatedvillages, whether of the same class or not and whether contiguousor not, may enter into a joint contract to acquire, install andoperate a fire department for the joint benefit and protection ofthe property situated in said contracting municipalities and thelives of the inhabitants thereof, and to erect and maintain atsuch place as may be agreed upon a building for the housing ofsaid fire department.
