Election and appointment of certain officers--tenure (cities of10,000 to 30,000).

81.140. At municipal elections in all cities and towns underspecial charters which have not less than ten thousandinhabitants nor more than thirty thousand inhabitants there shallbe elected a mayor, a police judge or recorder, an attorney, amarshal or chief of police, and such other officers as thecharter and ordinances of such city or town may provide, whoshall hold their respective offices for a term of two years,provided, however, any such city may provide by ordinance thatmarshal, chief of police and attorney may be appointed by themayor, subject to the approval of the city council, and suchordinance may further provide that all or any of such officerswhen so appointed and any of the other appointive officers of anysuch city, except the members of the board of public works, shallhold office for an indefinite term and during the pleasure of themayor and city council of such cities.
