Trustees to appoint engineer--adoption of sewer plan.

249.260. 1. Within thirty days after organizing, the boardof trustees may appoint a competent sanitary engineer as chiefengineer, who may be an individual, copartnership or corporation,and who shall engage such assistants as the board of trustees mayapprove by resolution. The chief engineer shall have control ofthe engineering work in the district; he shall make all necessarysurveys of the land and other property within the district andshall make a report, in writing, to the board of trustees withmaps and profiles of said survey or surveys where necessary,which report shall contain a plan for sewerage system and thedisposal of sewage. The said maps and profiles shall alsoindicate, as far as necessary, the location of any public roads,streets or highways, railroads and other rights-of-way, and otherproperty or improvements in said district.

2. Upon receipt of the said final report and plan for sewagedisposal, the board of trustees may adopt such report or anymodification thereof after consulting with the chief engineer,and thereafter such adopted report shall be known and designatedas the "Sewer Plan of ......... District", which plan shall befiled with the board of trustees and embodied in the records ofthe district. The board of trustees may purchase upon such termsas they may deem best, existing surveys, maps, profiles, and/orplans suitable for use in the whole or in part of the sewer plan.

3. Such engineer or engineering firm shall not receive as asalary, or an aggregate of salary and fees, in any one year, asum in excess of the sum fixed by law as the limit of salaryprovided for the highway engineer in the county in which suchdistrict is located.
