Election of trustees, procedure.

257.170. 1. Candidates for election to the board oftrustees shall file their declarations of candidacy with thesecretary of the board of trustees or in the case of the firstelection, the filing shall be in like manner with the secretaryof the election authority. The declaration of candidacy shallset forth the candidate's qualifications as provided herein.

2. The ballots shall not designate the candidates' parties.

3. At least a majority of the then qualified members of theboard of trustees or of the election district commission, as thecase might be, shall jointly tabulate the results received andshall certify the candidates receiving the greatest number ofvotes for the respective terms of office and until theirsuccessors have been elected and qualified. In the case of theelection district commission executing its duties hereunder, thesecretary thereof shall forthwith send to the court, byregistered mail, one complete copy of all returns.
