Director may require crossheads in shaft sinking operations.

293.600. When necessary in shaft sinking operations, thedirector of the division of mine inspection shall ordercrossheads attached to the rope for the purpose of guiding thedescent or ascent of the bucket or cage in the shaft, providedthat such crossheads shall not be required until a depth of fivehundred feet has been reached. All sinking crossheads shall beprovided with a safety appliance of a design approved by thedirector for attaching the bucket or cage to the crosshead.
