320.210. The state fire marshal shall appoint one assistantdirector and such other investigators and employees as the needsof the office require within the limits of the appropriation madefor such purpose. Supervising investigators shall be at leasttwenty-five years of age and shall have either a minimum of fiveyears' experience in fire risk inspection, prevention, orinvestigation work, or a degree in fire protection engineeringfrom a recognized college or university of engineering. Noperson shall be appointed as an investigator or other employeewho has been convicted of a felony or other crime involving moralturpitude. Any person appointed as an investigator shall be ofgood character, shall be a citizen of the United States, shallhave been a taxpaying resident of this state for at least threeyears immediately preceding his appointment, and shall be agraduate of an accredited four-year high school or, in lieuthereof, shall have obtained a certificate of equivalency fromthe state department of elementary and secondary education, andshall possess ordinary physical strength and be able to pass suchphysical and mental examinations as the state fire marshal mayprescribe. An investigator or employee shall not hold any othercommission or office, elective or appointive, or accept any otheremployment while he is an investigator or employee. Aninvestigator or employee shall not accept any compensation,reward, or gift other than his regular salary and expenses forthe performance of his official duties.
