320.220. The chief of the fire department or otherappropriate official of any city or other governmental unit orpolitical subdivision may be designated by the state fire marshalas a special deputy for his city, governmental unit, or politicalsubdivision to serve without pay from the state. The specialdeputy investigator shall immediately investigate the origin andcircumstances of any fire designated by the marshal and determinethe cause of the fire so far as is practicable. If it appears toany special deputy that the fire is of culpable or suspiciousorigin he shall immediately notify the state fire marshal.
