324.128. Definitions.

Definitions.

324.128. As used in sections 324.125 to 324.183, the following termsmean:

(1) "Board", the state board of registration for the healing arts;

(2) "Division", the division of professional registration;

(3) "Extracorporeal circulation", the diversion of a patient's bloodthrough a heart-lung machine or a similar device that assumes the functionsof the patient's heart, lungs, kidney, liver or other organs;

(4) "Licensed clinical perfusionist", a person licensed pursuant tosections 324.125 to 324.183;

(5) "Perfusion", the functions necessary for the support, treatment,measurement or supplementation of the cardiovascular, circulatory,respiratory systems or other organs, or a combination of such activities,and to ensure the safe management of physiologic functions by monitoringand analyzing the parameters of the systems under an order and under thesupervision of a licensed physician, including:

(a) The use of extracorporeal circulation, long-term cardiopulmonarysupport techniques including extracorporeal carbon-dioxide removal andextracorporeal membrane oxygenation and associated therapeutic anddiagnostic technologies;

(b) Counterpulsation, ventricular assistance, autotransfusion, bloodconservation techniques, myocardial and organ preservation, extracorporeallife support and isolated limb perfusion;

(c) The use of techniques involving blood management, advanced lifesupport and other related functions; and

(d) In the performance of the acts described in this subdivision:

a. The administration of:

(i) Pharmacological and therapeutic agents;

(ii) Blood products or anesthetic agents through the extracorporealcircuit or through an intravenous line as ordered by a physician;

b. The performance and use of:

(i) Anticoagulation monitoring and analysis;

(ii) Physiologic monitoring and analysis;

(iii) Blood gas and chemistry monitoring and analysis;

(iv) Hematologic monitoring and analysis;

(v) Hypothermia and hyperthermia;

(vi) Hemoconcentration and hemodilution;

(vii) Hemodialysis;

c. The observation of signs and symptoms related to perfusionservices, the determination of whether the signs and symptoms exhibitabnormal characteristics and the implementation of appropriate reporting,clinical perfusion protocols or changes in, or the initiation of, emergencyprocedures;

(6) "Perfusion protocols", perfusion-related policies and protocolsdeveloped or approved by a licensed health care facility or a physicianthrough collaboration with administrators, licensed clinical perfusionistsand other health care professionals;

(7) "Provisional clinical licensed perfusionist", a personprovisionally licensed pursuant to sections 324.125 to 324.183.
