Definition of insurer.

383.200. As used in sections 383.200 to 383.209, "insurer" includesany insurance company, mutual insurance company, medical malpracticeassociation, any entity created under this chapter, or other entityproviding any insurance to any health care provider, as defined in section538.205, RSMo, practicing in the state of Missouri, against claims formalpractice or professional negligence; provided, however, that the term"insurer" or "insurers" shall not mean any surplus lines insurer operatingunder chapter 384, RSMo, or any entity to the extent it is self-insuringits exposure to medical malpractice liability.
