701.353. 1. There is hereby established an "ElevatorSafety Board" to be composed of eleven members, one of whom shallbe the director of the department of public safety. Theremaining ten members of the board shall be appointed by thegovernor with the advice and consent of the senate. Each memberappointed by the governor shall be appointed for a term of fiveyears or until his* successor is appointed. The governor shallfill any vacancy on the board for the remainder of the unexpiredterm with a representative of the same interest as that of themember whose term is vacant. No more than six members of theboard, who are not employees of state or local government, shallbe members of the same political party.
2. Two members of the board shall represent the interestsof labor and shall be involved in the elevator industry. Twomembers of the board shall be representatives of manufacturers ofelevators used in this state. One member of the board shall bean architect or mechanical engineer. One member of the boardshall be a representative of owners of buildings affected bysections 701.350 to 701.380. Two members shall be buildingofficials with responsibility for administering elevatorregulations, one from each municipality having a population of atleast three hundred fifty thousand inhabitants. One member ofthe board shall be a representative of the disabled community whois familiar with the provisions of the Federal Americans withDisabilities Act. One member shall be a representative of thespecial inspectors.
3. The director of the department shall call the firstmeeting of the board within sixty days after all members havebeen appointed and qualified. The members from among theirmembership shall elect a chairman. After the initial meeting themembers shall meet at the call of the chairman, but shall meet atleast four times per year. Six members of the board shallconstitute a quorum.
4. The members of the board shall serve without pay, butthey shall receive per diem expenses in an equivalent amount asallowed for members of the general assembly.
