The state fire marshal shall keep and maintain a record of all fires, building collapses, and incidents involving the release of carbon monoxide other than from a motor vehicle occurring in this state and of all facts concerning the same, including statistics as to the extent of such fires, building collapses, and release of carbon monoxide and the damage caused thereby when over $5,000 and whether such losses were covered by insurance, and if so, in what amount. Such records shall be made daily from the reports made to the state fire marshal by the fire chiefs under the provisions hereof. All such records shall be public, except any testimony taken in an investigation under the provisions hereof of which the state fire marshal in the fire marshal's discretion may withhold from the public.
