§ 115C‑1.  General and uniform system ofschools.

A general and uniform system of free public schools shall be provided throughoutthe State, wherein equal opportunities shall be provided for all students, inaccordance with the provisions of Article IX of the Constitution of NorthCarolina. Tuition shall be free of charge to all children of the State, and toevery person of the State less than 21 years old, who has not completed astandard high school course of study. There shall be operated in every localschool administrative unit a uniform school term of nine months, without thelevy of a State ad valorem tax therefor.
