§ 116‑43.1. Institute for Transportation Research and Education.
The Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina isauthorized to establish an Institute for Transportation Research and Educationto facilitate the development of a broad program of transportation research andeducation involving other organizations and institutions which have relatedprograms. The immediate purpose of the Institute shall be to create amanagement structure to coordinate and eventually merge the Highway Safety Programsof the National Driving Center and the North Carolina Highway Safety ResearchCenter. The Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina is furtherauthorized to establish a Council for Transportation Research and Education torepresent all interests in transportation research and education, including butnot limited to transportation safety.
