§ 130A‑56. Election ofofficers; board compensation.
(a) Upon election, asanitary district board shall meet and elect one of its members as chairpersonand another member as secretary.
(b) The board mayemploy a clerk or other assistants as necessary and may fix duties of andcompensation for employees. A sanitary district board may remove employees andfill vacancies.
(c) The board may fixthe compensation and allowances of the chairman and other members of the boardby adoption of the annual budget ordinance, payable from the funds of thedistrict, but no increase may become effective earlier than the first meetingof the board following the next election of board members after adoption of theordinance. Until adoption of an ordinance under this subsection, each member ofthe board may receive compensation as provided for members of State boardsunder G.S. 138‑5, payable from funds of the district.
