§ 136‑221.  Agreement.

The Commonwealth of Virginiaand the State of North Carolina agree, upon adoption of this compact:

(1)        To study, develop,and promote a plan for the design, construction, financing, and operation ofinterstate high‑speed rail service through and between points in theCommonwealth of Virginia and the State of North Carolina, and adjacent states.

(2)        To coordinateefforts to establish high‑speed rail service at the federal, State, andlocal governmental levels.

(3)        To advocate forfederal funding to support the establishment of high‑speed interstaterail service within and through Virginia and North Carolina and to receivefederal funds made available for rail development.

(4)        To provide fundingand resources to the Virginia‑North Carolina High‑Speed RailCompact Commission from funds that are or may become available and areappropriated for that purpose. (2004‑114, s. 1.)
