Part 29. Veterans' Memorial Commission.
§ 143B‑133. Commission established.
(a) There is created within the Department of Cultural Resourcesthe Veterans' Memorial Commission.
(b) The Veterans' Memorial Commission shall consist of 15members, none of whom shall be members of the North Carolina General Assembly.The appointments shall be made as follows:
(1) Five persons shall be appointed by the General Assembly uponthe recommendation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives in accordancewith G.S. 120‑121.
(2) Five persons shall be appointed by the General Assembly uponthe recommendation of the President Pro Tempore of the Senate in accordancewith G.S. 120‑121.
(3) Five persons shall be appointed by the Governor.
Vacancies in appointments made by the General Assembly shall be filledin accordance with G.S. 120‑122. Other vacancies in appointive termsshall be filled by appointment by the Governor.
(c) The members of the Commission shall serve for the life ofthe Commission.
(d) The members of the Commission shall receive necessary traveland subsistence expenses in accordance with the provisions of G.S. 138‑5.
(e) The majority of the Commission shall constitute a quorum forthe transaction of business.
(f) The members of the Commission shall select a chairman andvice‑chairman.
(g) The Commission shall meet at least once during each calendarquarter upon the call of the chairman. The initial meeting shall be called bythe Secretary of Cultural Resources to be held no later than August 31, 1987.
(h) The Department of Cultural Resources shall provideadministrative and support staff to the Commission to assist it in performingits duties.
(i) The Commission shall terminate and this Part expire upondedication of the monument. (1987, c. 779, s. 1; 1995, c. 490, s. 62.)
