§ 143B‑336. NorthCarolina Zoological Park Council members; selection; removal; chairman;compensation; quorum; services.
The North Carolina Zoological Park Council of the Department ofEnvironment and Natural Resources shall consist of 15 members appointed by theGovernor, one of whom shall be the Chairman of the Board of Directors of theNorth Carolina Zoological Society.
The initial members of the Council shall be the members of the Board ofDirectors of the North Carolina Zoo Authority who shall serve for a periodequal to the remainder of their current terms on the Board of Directors of theNorth Carolina Zoological Authority, all of whose terms expire July 15, 1975.At the end of the respective terms of office of the initial members of theCouncil, the Governor, to achieve staggered terms, shall appoint five membersfor terms of two years, five members for terms of four years and five membersfor terms of six years. Thereafter, the appointment of their successors shallbe for terms of six years and until their successors are appointed and qualify.Any appointment to fill a vacancy on the Council created by the resignation,dismissal, death or disability of a member shall be for the balance of theunexpired term.
The Governor shall have the power to remove any member of the Councilfrom office in accordance with the provisions of G.S. 143B‑16 of theExecutive Organization Act of 1973.
The Governor shall designate a member of the Council to serve aschairman at his pleasure.
Members of the Council shall receive per diem and necessary travel andsubsistence expenses in accordance with the provisions of G.S. 138‑5.
A majority of the Council shall constitute a quorum for the transactionof business.
