§ 15A‑266.12. Confidentiality of records.

(a)        All DNA profilesand samples submitted to the SBI pursuant to this Article shall be treated asconfidential except as provided in G.S. 15A‑266.8.

(b)        Only DNA recordsand samples that directly relate to the identification of individuals shall becollected and stored. These records and samples shall solely be used as a partof the criminal justice system for the purpose of facilitating the personalidentification of the perpetrator of a criminal offense; provided that inappropriate circumstances such records may be used to identify potentialvictims of mass disasters or missing persons.
