§ 20-171.2. Bicycle racing. - North Carolina Statutes

§ 20‑171.2.  Bicycleracing.

(a)        Bicycle racing onthe highways is prohibited except as authorized in this section.

(b)        Bicycle racing on ahighway shall not be unlawful when a racing event has been approved by State orlocal authorities on any highway under their respective jurisdictions. Approvalof bicycle highway racing events shall be granted only under conditions whichassure reasonable safety for all race participants, spectators and otherhighway users, and which prevent unreasonable interference with traffic flowwhich would seriously inconvenience other highway users.

(c)        By agreement withthe approving authority, participants in an  approved bicycle highway racingevent may be exempted from compliance with any traffic laws otherwiseapplicable thereto, provided that traffic control is adequate to assure thesafety of all highway users. (1977, c. 1123, s. 1.)
