SECTION 11-35-17

   § 11-35-17  Crank or obscene telephonecalls. – (a) Whoever shall originate a transmission by facsimile machine, or othertelecommunication device or shall telephone any person repeatedly or cause anyperson to be telephoned repeatedly for the sole purpose of harassing, annoying,or molesting the other person or his or her family, whether or not conversationensues; or whoever shall originate a transmission by facsimile machine, orother telecommunication device or shall telephone any person for the purpose ofusing any threatening, vulgar, indecent, obscene, or immoral language over thetelephone, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punished by a fine ofnot more than five hundred dollars ($500), or by imprisonment for not more thanone year, or both.

   (b) This section shall not be construed to impose anyliability upon providers of telecommunications services.
