§ 12-14-5 - Violations of Cranston ordinance.

SECTION 12-14-5

   § 12-14-5  Violations of Cranstonordinance. – The city of Cranston is authorized and empowered to fix any fines that thecommittee on police of the city council may, from time to time, establish asfines for violation of traffic ordinances. The committee on police maydesignate the police department for the purpose of collecting the fines asprovided in this section, when the offender decides to dispose of the chargewithout personal appearance in court within seven (7) days from notification.The police department is authorized to receive the fines directly from anyperson charged with violation of any provision of the ordinances of the cityrelating to traffic, and the money so received and collected shall be turnedover by the police to the city treasurer. All charges, records, and paymentsshall be immediately entered by the police and the books of the policecontaining records of the violations, their dispositions, and money received asfines shall be audited not less than once every three (3) months by the cityauditor of the city. In the event the offender refuses or neglects to disposeof the charges within seven (7) days, then he or she shall be brought beforethe district court for the sixth division for trial and for any disposition ofthe case that the court may decide to be proper, in which case the provisionsof § 12-14-1, relating to fines and their disposition, shall prevail.
