§ 14-1-20 - Release or placement of child in custody of officer.

SECTION 14-1-20

   § 14-1-20  Release or placement of child incustody of officer. – Whenever any officer takes a child into custody, he or she shall, unless it isimpracticable or has been otherwise ordered by the court, accept the writtenpromise of the parent, guardian, or other custodian of the child to bring thechild to the court at the time fixed. Upon that promise the child may bereleased in the custody of a parent, guardian, or other custodian. If not soreleased, the child shall be placed in the custody of a probation counselor orother person designated by the court, or shall immediately be taken to thecourt or other place of detention designated by the court, and the officertaking him or her shall immediately notify the court and shall file a petitionwhen directed to do so by the court.
