§ 16-21-15 Eye protective devices. (a) Every student and teacher in a public or private school, college, oruniversity participating in any of the courses listed in subdivisions (1) and(2) of this subsection shall be required to wear approved eye protectivedevices at all times while participating in the courses or laboratories. Thedevices shall be furnished by their respective schools, colleges, anduniversities to all students, teachers, and visitors to the followingclassrooms and laboratories:
(1) Vocational or industrial arts shops or laboratoriesinvolving experience with:
(i) Hot molten metals;
(ii) Milling, sawing, turning, shaping, cutting, grinding, orstamping of any solid materials;
(iii) Heat treatment, tempering, or kiln firing of any metalor other materials;
(iv) Gas or electric arc welding;
(v) Repair or servicing of any vehicle;
(vi) Caustic or explosive materials;
(2) Chemical or combined chemical-physical laboratoriesinvolving caustic or explosive chemicals or hot liquids or solids.
(b) The director of labor and training shall promulgateregulations and standards assuring the use of devices which will protect theeyes of teachers, pupils, and visitors against injury from foreign substances,and each public or private school, college, and university shall, beforefurnishing eye protective devices, obtain approval of the devices from thedirector of labor and training.
