§ 23-1.8-3 - Committees.

SECTION 23-1.8-3

   § 23-1.8-3  Committees. – (a) To assist in the performance of its duties the commission shall establishvarious committees. Except as authorized by the commission, committees shall becomposed of no more than seven (7) members who shall serve staggered terms.

   (b) At least one individual who is deaf, one individual whois hard-of-hearing, and one commission member, whenever possible, shall serveon each committee. In addition, governmental agencies shall assign onerepresentative to the following committees:

   (1) Telecommunications relay service committee: onerepresentative of the public utilities commission;

   (2) Education committee: one representative of the departmentof elementary and secondary education and one representative of the RhodeIsland School for the Deaf;

   (3) Employment committee: one representative of thedepartment of human services, and one representative of the department of laborand training;

   (4) Health care committee: one representative of thedepartment of elderly affairs, one representative of the department of health,and one representative of the department of mental health, retardation, andhospitals;

   (c) The committees are responsible for appointing theirchairpersons. Chairpersons shall report upon the activities of their committeesat commission meetings.
