SECTION 23-12.6-3

   § 23-12.6-3  Public policy goals –Department of health. – The department of health, through the Rhode Island Cancer Council, isauthorized and mandated to achieve and implement the following public healthpolicy goals as they relate to ovarian cancer in Rhode Island:

   (1) The department of health, through the Rhode Island CancerCouncil, is mandated to sponsor a yearly public education campaign to expandwomen's and health care providers awareness about the disease. This campaignshall consist of awareness about the common symptoms of the disease, screeningtests, and examinations by gynecologists that can detect the early symptoms ofthe disease.

   (2) The department of health, through the Rhode Island CancerCouncil, shall establish as public policy in the state increased funding forresearch and advocacy for creating genetic testing policies.

   (3) The department of health, through the Rhode Island CancerCouncil, shall work with major health providers in Rhode Island to research andextend and promote the awareness and understanding of ovarian cancer in orderto improve screening and detection tools and to work with the nationalorganizations to assist in finding a cure.

   (4) The department of health, through the Rhode Island CancerCouncil, shall coordinate the work of ovarian cancer groups, activists,researchers, support groups, and health advocates and shall annually report tothe general assembly the progress it is making to advance education, detectionand research and improved therapies concerning ovarian cancer affecting womenin the state.
