SECTION 31-3-41

   § 31-3-41  Return of registration card andplates – Receipt. – Whenever, under any of the provisions of title 31, entitled "motor and othervehicles," a person surrenders, returns, or delivers to any person in thedivision of motor vehicles, any registration card or plate, a receipt shall begiven, sufficiently identifying the registration card or plate and showing thedate it was received. As soon as practical after January 1st, in every year,the division of motor vehicles shall furnish, without charge, to the taxassessors of each city or town in this state a statement of cancellation,surrendering or returns of registration plates of motor vehicles whose ownershave addresses in the respective cities or towns on or after January 1st andthrough the thirty-first (31st) day of December of the previous year and theinclusive dates of their registration with this period.
