§ 33-21A-3 - Proceeding to adjudicate escheat.

SECTION 33-21A-3

   § 33-21A-3  Proceeding to adjudicateescheat. – (a) The general treasurer may bring proceedings in the superior court forProvidence and Bristol counties to escheat unclaimed postal savings systemaccounts held by the United States treasury department. A single proceeding maybe used to escheat as many accounts as may be available for escheat at one time.

   (b) If the superior court shall find that the notice requiredby § 33-21A-4 has been duly given not less than twenty (20) days prior tothe date of hearing and that no claim to an account has been made (whichfindings may be supported solely by the affidavit of the general treasurer),then it shall enter a final judgment of escheat against the account. A singlefinal judgment may include more than one account.
