§ 39-16-20 - Supplementary powers.

SECTION 39-16-20

   § 39-16-20  Supplementary powers. –The authority, in addition to any other powers granted in this chapter, has thefollowing powers in order to assist it in setting rates:

   (1) To conduct examinations and hearings and to heartestimony and take proof, under oath or affirmation, at public or privatehearings, on any matter material for its information and necessary to carry outthe terms of this chapter;

   (2) To issue subpoenas, necessary to carry out the terms ofthis chapter, requiring the attendance of witnesses and the production of booksand papers pertinent to any hearing before the authority, or before one or moreof the members of the authority appointed by it to conduct the hearing; and

   (3) To apply to any court, having territorial jurisdiction ofthe offense, to have punished for contempt any witness who refuses to obey asubpoena, or who refuses to be sworn or affirmed to testify, or who is guiltyof any contempt after summons to appear.
