SECTION 42-30-1

   § 42-30-1  Election of justices by towncouncil. – The town or city council of any town or city of this state may appoint and fixthe terms of justices of the peace, and no justice of the peace shall beelected by the qualified electors in any town or city at any regular or specialelection held for the purpose of electing officers of the town or city, orotherwise.
