§ 42-61-14 - Payment of prizes to minors and persons under legal disabilities.
SECTION 42-61-14
§ 42-61-14 Payment of prizes to minors andpersons under legal disabilities. – (a) If the person entitled to a prize or any winning ticket is under the age ofeighteen (18) years, the director shall direct payment to the minor bydepositing the amount of the prize in any financial institution to the creditof a member of the minor's family or legal guardian of the minor as custodianfor that minor. The person named as custodian shall have the same duties andpowers as a person designated as a custodian in a manner prescribed by the"Rhode Island Uniform Gifts to Minors Act".
(b) If a person entitled to a prize or any winning ticket isunder any other legal disability, the director shall direct payment to afiduciary responsible for that person pursuant to the laws of this state.
(c) The director shall be relieved of all further liabilityupon payment of a prize to a minor or person under a legal disability pursuantto this section.
