SECTION 44-2-1

   § 44-2-1  Compensation of town assessors,clerks, and collectors. – Assessors shall receive the amount of compensation that the town allows; townclerks shall be paid for copying tax bills as for other copies; and collectorsshall be paid for collecting at the rate of five percent (5%) unless they haveagreed with the town for a smaller sum; which fees shall be paid out of thetown treasury. In case of distraint of personal property or levy on land, thecollectors shall have the same fees as sheriffs have in similar cases.
