   § 44-20-51  Penalty for violationsgenerally. – Except as provided in this chapter, any person who violates any provision ofthis chapter is guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be fined not more than onethousand dollars ($1,000). Whoever knowingly violates any provision of thischapter, or of regulations prescribed thereunder, shall, in addition to anyother penalty provided in this chapter, for each such offense, be fined notmore than five thousand dollars ($5,000) or imprisoned not more than one year,or both.
