SECTION 5-54-1

   § 5-54-1  Declaration of policy. – (a) The general assembly intends to establish by this chapter a framework forthe development of a new category of health personnel to be known as thephysician assistant.

   (b) The purpose of this chapter is to encourage the moreeffective utilization of the skills of physicians by enabling them to delegatehealth care tasks including the writing of prescriptions and medical orders toqualified physician assistants where that delegation is consistent with thepatient's health and welfare.

   (c) Nothing in this chapter shall be construed to repeal orsupersede existing laws relating to other paramedical professions or services.
