SECTION 8-9-2.1
§ 8-9-2.1 Probate judges –Qualifications. – No person shall be eligible to serve as a probate judge in any city or town inthis state unless he or she has been admitted to practice as an attorney beforethe Rhode Island supreme court and has been engaged in the active practice oflaw in this state. Each city or town may establish additional standards as maybe determined by city or town ordinance.
