34A-13-6. Notice of release to department--Investigations by director. If the director has reason to believe that a release has occurred, he shall notify the department. The director may undertake reasonable, independent investigations, in addition to any investigation of the department, necessary to identify the existence, source, nature, and extent of a release, the responsible persons, and the extent of danger to the public health, safety, and welfare or the environment.
