40-6-22. Amount of compensation for animals slaughtered--Maximum allowance--Computation based on appraisal--Adjustment when federal compensation received. The owner of any bovine animal ordered slaughtered on account of tuberculosis as provided in this chapter shall be compensated from funds provided for the purpose by the state in a sum not to exceed twenty-five dollars for any grade animal or fifty dollars for any purebred animal registered in a recognized breed association, and such sum may, in no event, exceed one-third of the difference between the appraised value, determined as provided by §§ 40-6-18 and 40-6-19, of any animal and the value of the net salvage received by the owner from the slaughter of such animal. If the owner receives compensation from the federal government for such animal the owner may not receive out of state and federal funds provided for such purpose a total sum greater than two-thirds of the difference between the appraised value, as provided in this chapter, of any animal and the value of the net salvage received by the owner from the slaughter of such animal.
