5-24-6. Civil liability of officer for failure to account for property. In the event of the disposition of any of the personal property above mentioned, by the respective officers, without complying with the requirements of this chapter, such officer shall, in addition to the penal penalty prescribed by law, be liable for the value thereof as shown by the last preceding inventory, to be recovered in a civil suit.
